Sheffield United Women are pleased to announce the launch of a new Under-21 team ahead of the 2022-23 season.

The new Under-21 squad, which will replace the current Development team structure, aims to build on the success of the club's Regional Talent Centre (RTC) success.

This success has seen a number of players progress to the first team squad in recent seasons, including the likes of Tamara Wilcock, Charley Docherty, Matilda Taylor, Sam Sharrocks, Chene Muir and Jess Reavill.

The team will train alongside Neil Redfearn's first team squad at Shirecliffe, where they will have access to indoor and outdoor 3G pitches and a state-of-the-art gym, as well as high-quality coaching, tactical analysis, strength and conditioning, psychology and physiotherapy assistance.

The club will host three trials for those promising young players in the area who want to join the new Under-21 side, with the first completely open trial to be held on Wednesday 1st June between 6:30pm - 8:30pm.

After that, two invite only trials will be held on Saturday 4th June and Sunday 5th June, both between 11am and 1pm.

Regarding the new programme, current Development team manager Ash Thompson said:

“We’re blessed with a huge about of talented youngsters at the club, from U11s all the way through to first team level. The future is very bright and everyone at the club buys into the backing and promotion of youth. We have really exciting plans and the move to U21s is just the next step forwards.

“We’re keen to get the games programme right this year and increase the number of competitive fixtures. We’ve competed well against tier 3 teams in the last few months and that’s definitely the blueprint moving forward. I know that we’re working with the FA to provide a challenging and innovative solution for the U21 team.”
